Block&Read
This Privacy Policy explains how Block&Read ("the App"), developed and operated by Nicolas Gula ("we", "us", "our"), handles your information. The short version: we have no servers and we do not collect, see, or sell your data.
1. Information we collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to servers of our own — we operate none. The App has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Your reading activity (pages read, streaks, reading time, progress), your book list, and your settings are stored locally on your device.
2. iCloud backup
If iCloud is enabled on your device, your reading data and the books you add are backed up to your own private iCloud (Apple's CloudKit and iCloud Drive). This backup belongs to your Apple Account: we have no access to it — only you do. You can remove it at any time from iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.
3. Screen Time & app blocking
The App uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to block the apps you choose. Apple designed this system so that developers cannot see which apps you select or when you use them — the selection is stored as an opaque token that never leaves your device. We know nothing about your app usage.
4. Book search & downloads
The App connects to public-domain libraries so you can find and read books. When you use search, the text you type is sent to the Gutendex API (gutendex.com) to return matching titles. When you download a book or its cover, the App requests the file directly from Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org) or Standard Ebooks (standardebooks.org). Like any web request, those servers may see standard technical data such as your IP address, governed by their own policies. We add no identifiers to those requests, and we never receive their contents.
5. Purchases
Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or have access to your payment information. Apple's handling of your data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
6. Notifications & alarms
Daily reading reminders and alarms are scheduled locally on your device. They involve no server and send no data anywhere.
7. Deleting your data
Delete the App to remove all data stored on your device. To remove the iCloud backup, go to iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, or turn off iCloud for Block&Read.
8. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
9. Your rights
Because we do not collect any personal data, there is no personal information held by us to access, correct, export, or delete. Rights you may have under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA are satisfied by design: your data stays with you. If you have any questions, contact us at the email below.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
