English Vocabulary Game: How to Pick One That Teaches You
A good English vocabulary game shows you the meaning of each word, lets you hear it, adapts to your level and brings words back for review. If a game skips any of these, it is a puzzle with English letters in it.
What to look for
- Meaning on screen. A picture or a translation for every word, so you never memorize a shape you don't understand.
- Pronunciation. Recorded audio of every word.
- Levels that follow a real scale. The CEFR scale (A1 to C2) is the standard for language levels. A game ordered by it starts where you are.
- Review built in. Old words should return, not disappear after one round.
- Short sessions. Something you can play in two minutes is something you will play every day.
How Word Search: Learning English covers it
- About 2,270 English words in 2000 levels, ordered from A1 (CAT, DOG) to C1 (ASTRONAUT, GALAXY).
- Every word has a picture sticker, a recorded pronunciation and a translation in your language. The interface comes in 45 languages.
- Words return in later levels. From A2 on you see only the translation and the first letter, so you have to recall the English word.
- 20 themed worlds keep related words together: animals, food, the house, clothes, transport, weather, space and more.
- Medals and diplomas for each unit and a daily streak make it easy to keep going.
How to play it for the best results
- Start at level 1 even if you know some English. The early levels are quick and set your base.
- Play one or two levels a day.
- When you finish a level, look at the stickers again and say each word without the audio.
