ESL Word Search for Adults, Not Kids' Worksheets
Most ESL word searches online are printable worksheets made for primary school. Adults need the same practice with real vocabulary, a sensible pace and no cartoons telling them "good job, buddy".
What adult learners need from a word search
- Useful words. Everyday vocabulary first (food, transport, the home, work tools), then abstract and advanced words.
- Your own language as support. A translation removes the guesswork, especially at the start.
- Pronunciation. Adults often read English well but don't know how a word sounds.
- Progress you can see. Levels that match the CEFR scale tell you where you are.
Using Word Search: Learning English as an adult
- Pick your language when you open the app; translations and menus follow it (45 languages).
- Play the first levels quickly to build the base A1 vocabulary.
- From A2 on, the game shows only the translation and the first letter. This is where real learning happens: you have to produce the English word.
- Use the hint (the lightbulb) only after you have tried; it reveals a letter, not the whole word.
- Tap stickers to hear words again and repeat them out loud.
For teachers
If you teach adults, suggest the app as homework between classes: ten minutes a day on the vocabulary of the current topic, then use the words in class conversation.
